The properties of natural linen make it a premium fabric choice in multiple categories, both indoors and outdoors. Linen is a highly breathable and absorbent textile, cool in summer and warm in winter, it is hypoallergenic and antibacterial, unfussy, easy to maintain, and of course, it is beautiful and elegant.
Linen is woven from the fibers of the flax plant. With its pale blue flowers, flax was one of the first plants to be cultivated by humans, and there is evidence of its use as early as the seventh century BCE. Its strong fibers have been used throughout human history to weave textiles that were known for their beauty and durability, for being pleasant to the touch, and for the insulation they provided against weather conditions. The reputation of linen continues to precede it even today, and it is used, among other things, to make clothing, curtains, towels, and tablecloths, but where it really stands out is bedding (also known as linens).
Linen is a wonderful choice for the environment: flax needs only rainwater, requiring no additional irrigation, it has a high carbon absorption capacity, which helps to reduce carbon dioxide levels in the Earth’s atmosphere, every part of the plant can be used, which prevents waste, and it requires minimal fertilizers and pesticides. Thus, flax can actually be defined as naturally organic.
Our production processes, too, are environmentally friendly. They are carried out in plants where a high level of transparency is assured, as well as environmental accountability, and the highest manufacturing standards, without toxins or chemicals, including enzymatic natural dyeing. The result – quality organic linens that conform to the strict Oeko-Tex® Standard 100.
Linen fabrics are intended for prolonged use. They are resistant to insect and pest damage (as long as they are stored in a dry place, away from sunlight). They mature gracefully and improve with age. With the passage of time, even when they come to the end of their life, linen fabrics can be recycled or left to disintegrate naturally.
Linen, therefore, is a wise, balanced, and natural choice – for us, and for our planet.
